Absorbent materials

When diagnostic material is shipped, it must be packaged according to packaging instructions P650 and P620. Absorbent materials are an important part of this.

Packaging Instruction P650

Packaging instruction P650 is a mandatory packaging standard for both road and air transport. This standard relates to the strength of the packaging, its leakproof and airtight qualities (95 kPa), and the inclusion of absorbent materials.

Triple packaging systems used for road and air transport are similar in structure. These systems consist of three components:

  • The first is the primary container, such as our tubes and containers.

  • The second component is the secondary packaging, which includes the Safetybag and the absorbent material.

  • The third component is the outer packaging used for shipping.

What Are Medical Absorbent Materials?

Absorbent materials are essential tools for the safe shipment of diagnostic specimens in the medical sector. These materials are designed to soak up and retain fluids, ensuring they remain contained within the packaging and preventing leaks during transport.

DaklaPack offers a wide range of absorbent sheets, tube holders, and pads, specifically developed for professional use in laboratories and medical facilities. Whether you're shipping small tubes or larger volumes of blood or biological fluids, our absorbent materials provide safe and reliable transport for your specimens.

Absorption Capacity

The absorbent materials in our range can handle various amounts of liquid or blood. Shipping small tubes? Our absorbent tube holder may be the right choice—it absorbs up to 14 ml per position, making it ideal for smaller quantities.

If you're shipping larger volumes of blood or other biological fluids, we recommend adding an absorbent pad to your packaging. These pads can absorb up to 0.5 liters of blood or 3.5 liters of fluid.

Absorbent Tube Holders

Absorbent tube holders are a vital component for compliant packaging when transporting Category B biological substances, including exempt animal/human specimens under UN3373 regulations. These holders contain potential leaks and act as a protective barrier in case the primary container is compromised.

By keeping specimen tubes securely separated and protected during transit, they help minimize the risk of contamination and infection. With options ranging from 1 to 6 positions and an impressive 14 ml absorption capacity per slot, our tube holders can be tailored to meet your specific needs.

At DaklaPack, we ensure our absorbent tube holders comply with all regulations for the safe shipment of Category B biological substances. Store tube holders at room temperature (between 41°F and 77°F / 5°C and 25°C) in a dry location away from direct sunlight to maintain peak performance.
