Strict regulations on recyclable plastic packaging

Plastic packaging designed for recycling must follow important guidelines. These guidelines primarily concern the use of non-carbon black colors, a minimum size, and a mono-material character. Additionally, recyclable plastic packaging must be made from mono-material PE (recycling infrastructure exists, recycling code LDPE 4) or mono-material PP (recycling infrastructure is supported, recycling code PP 5). Eco-label: Designed for Recycling

DaklaPack's recyclable plastic packaging is all labeled with the ‘Designed for Recycling’ label, which you can find on the product page. All products that can be recycled with the current recycling infrastructure or are suitable for expected improvements to the recycling structure carry this eco-label. The following criteria are associated with this label:

• The product is made from mono-material LDPE or PP: Different types of plastic materials have very diverse properties. For example, the melting point can vary, making it very complicated and sometimes even impossible to recycle packaging made from different materials.

• The product color is non-carbon black: Near-Infrared (NIR) sorting machines are not yet able to detect carbon-black packaging, causing this material to be sorted for destruction. Light-colored plastic packaging is preferred during recycling, as it ensures a neutrally colored end product.

• The product contains no hard plastic parts: During the waste sorting process, hard and soft types of plastic are separated and recycled differently. If a plastic package contains both hard and soft parts, it might end up in the wrong recycling stream.

• The product is larger than 5x5 cm: Smaller plastic packages often cannot be detected, resulting in them being sorted for destruction.
